How to Prepare for Your Family Photoshoot
I am so excited that we will meet soon. I want us to have an unforgettable experience full of joy and laughter. To help as much as possible, I would like to share with you some tips on how to prepare for our adventure.
Getting ready for a photo shoot is part of the experience, and how you prepare can make a big difference in the final photos! Here’s a guide to help you feel relaxed and look your best for your special day.
1. Mindset and Relaxation
The night before your session, take a few moments to relax and visualize a joyful, fun experience. Think about what you want to capture in these photos and come excited to celebrate your unique story. Preparing in advance will help ease any last-minute nerves, so you can fully enjoy this experience!
2. Outfits & Accessories
Choosing the right outfits will add style and harmony to your photos. Here are a few tips for selecting and preparing your wardrobe:
Plan Coordinated Colors: Opt for outfits in similar colors and styles. Light, soft colors always look stylish, while dark accents can create a lovely contrast. Boho, vintage, or elegant casual styles are ideal choices, as they look timeless and add character to photos. Jeans and white shirts are also a classic look that never goes out of style.
Avoid Busy Prints: Prints can be fun, but for group photos, it’s best to keep them simple and coordinated. Different prints can be distracting in photos, so consider sticking with solid colours or subtle patterns.
Don’t Forget Socks and Shoes: Clean shoes are important to complete your look and feel free to bring an extra pair to change into at the studio. For socks, classic, single-colour and longer-length styles work best—avoid logos or bright colours if possible.
Prepare Everything the Night Before To avoid any last-minute rush, lay out all outfits, shoes, and accessories the night before. This makes the morning of your shoot relaxed and stress-free.
3. Grooming and Details Matter
Little details like makeup, hair, nails, and hands all play a part in creating the polished look you want. Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
Makeup and Hair: Whether you go for natural or a little glam, makeup and hair should be styled to match the look and feel of your outfits. Well-prepared hair and makeup will bring out your best features on camera!
Nails and Hands: Clean, groomed nails and hands make a difference in close-up shots. If you prefer the nail polish, choose a colour that complements your outfits. For children, make sure any old stick-on tattoos or nail polish are removed.
4. Preparing Kids for the Session
If children are joining, a little preparation can make the experience fun and smooth for everyone. Here’s how to help them enjoy the day:
Talk About the Experience: Share with your child that this photo shoot is a special moment and that the studio is a creative space to be respected. Let them know that the decorations are there to create a beautiful setting and aren’t toys.
Bringing Comfort Items: Bring along a favourite toy and your child’s favourite music on your phone. A familiar item or song can be a comforting distraction if they need a little break.
Respecting Studio Space: While we want everyone to have fun, please note that if something in the studio is damaged, parents will be responsible for covering the cost.
5. The Day of the Shoot
Arrive on Time: Punctuality allows us to make the most of our time together and keep the session relaxed and enjoyable. Being on time gives us plenty of time to ease into the photoshoot and capture you at your best.
Bring Your Smiles and Have Fun!: This is your time to shine, so relax, enjoy, and let us capture the authentic, beautiful you.
6. After the Session: Viewing and Payment
Editing Timeline: Your fully edited photos will be ready within 14 days. Once they’re ready, we’ll schedule a personal viewing session, where you’ll get to see all the wonderful moments we’ve captured.
Choosing Your Package: During the in-person viewing, you can decide which package works best for you. Payment will be due at this time.
